| Over the last 30 years, Anna Quindlen’s work has appeared in some of America’s most influential newspapers, many of its best-known magazines, and on both fiction and non-fiction bestseller lists. In addition to winning a Pulitzer Prize for her New York Times column, Public and Private, Quindlen, is the first writer to have books appear on the fiction, nonfiction and self-help New York Times Best Sellers lists.
Her book, A Short Guide to a Happy Life, has sold over 1 million copies. Her novel, Black and Blue, was chosen for Oprah’s Book Club and several of her books have been made into movies starring Meryl Streep and Mary Tyler Moore. Quindlen is also the author of bestselling novels Rise and Shine, Blessings, Object Lessons and One True Thing as well as nonfiction books Good Dog. Stay., Being Perfect, Loud & Clear, Living Out Loud, Thinking Out Loud, and How Reading Changed My Life. Quindlen was only the third woman in New York Times history to write a regular column for its influential Op-Ed page. From 2000-2009, She wrote the Last Word column for Newsweek and she continues to contribute articles for the magazine. Quindlen is a native of Philadelphia and a graduate of Barnard College, where she is chair of the board of trustees. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and holds honorary degrees from more than a dozen American universities. During this session, Angela Bole, Deputy Executive Director for the Book Industry Study Group (BISG) will discuss her company’s perspective on the book industry’s “game changing” event: changing attitudes toward e-books and e-reading. To illustrate her points, Angela will share recently published data from BISG that examines both student and general consumer book/e-book behaviors and provides insight into where e-books are headed.
