Is your campus more Mac or more PC?

With Apple refreshing their MacBook Pro line today as well as having plans to  announce the second generation iPad on March 2.  We started to wonder about what’s popular on your campus?  For example, at Skidmore College, the public computer kiosks are 50/50 with Macs and Dells.  But when you talk with Bob Carlton who coordinates the Authorized Apple Campus Store at The Skidmore Shop, he informs us that Macs are the preferred computer for personal use.  Roughly 93% of the student population who bring their own computers to Skidmore, bring a Mac.  As for PC users on campus, Carlton says that Sony Vios and HP’s are preferred over Dell’s.  As for selling PC’s, Carlton says The Skidmore Shop is an authorized HP store, but they do not physically carry HP’s in the store.  Instead they are sold through an online link through the bookstore website.  “This way we can offer our Skidmore community a computer choice instead of just one option” says Carlton.  Carlton also says “The great thing about the HP set up is we just direct the customers to the link, and then they build their own machine and it’s shipped right to them”.  As for Macs, The Skidmore Shop keeps the computers in stock along with iPads, iPods and other Apple product.  The one thing The Skidmore Shop, or any Authorized Apple Campus Store can’t sell would be the iPhone.  Other than that, they have a full Apple inventory at store.  And if the customer wants a customized Mac, they do that too.

But not all schools are alike.  So we just wanted to know what’s popular at your school and why do you think so?
